Grevet’s sustainability statement
At Grevet we combine the tradition of long-distance cycling with a clear focus on sustainability and responsibility towards our environment. Inspired by the early pioneers of cycling, who conquered the open road with determination and a minimalist approach, we are committed to environmentally conscious event design and sustainable mobility. For us, it is not only about experiencing the ride, but also about making a positive contribution to nature and to the future of cycling.
Examples of our concrete measures:
- Sustainable mobility: The history of cycling is closely tied to the idea of independence and the use of environmentally friendly means of transport. At Grevet we continue this tradition by encouraging participants to travel by public transport such as trains or long-distance coaches and to avoid flights. Our aim is to keep the event’s carbon footprint as low as possible. During the event we deliberately keep the use of motorised vehicles to a minimum. Cargo bikes handle the load transport where possible, and you won’t find quads or motocross bikes here, which are often seen at outdoor events. This ensures that Grevet remains an environmentally friendly and authentic experience — entirely in the spirit of the pioneers who conquered the roads before us.
- Digital transformation: In the tradition of minimalist cycling, at Grevet we rely on digital solutions to minimise paper use. All information on courses, routes and communication runs through digital channels, so we can do without physical materials such as paper maps and brochures. This approach not only helps reduce waste but also lets us respond more flexibly and quickly to changes or updates — all in line with the ongoing digitalisation of cycling.
- No plastic, pomp or unnecessary materials: At Grevet the focus is on the experience, not on unnecessary frills. For this reason we deliberately do without barrier tape, signs and the use of plastic materials. The route is planned clearly and thoughtfully, so that orientation and the exchange of information happen efficiently and resource-sparingly through digital means. This way we avoid unnecessary waste and, by doing without superfluous materials, also prevent unnecessary journeys when setting up and dismantling the event.
- Leave no traces: Our guiding principle is “Leave no traces” — we rely on environmentally friendly cleaning methods and proper waste disposal. Participants are encouraged to reduce their waste during the event and to treat their surroundings with respect. In doing so we follow the principles of long-distance cycling: experiencing nature without harming it. By acting thoughtfully and with consideration for the environment, we make a long-term contribution to protecting nature and the paths we ride.
- No unsuitable sponsors: At a time when cycling is increasingly shaped by commercial interests, at Grevet we take a different path. We deliberately do without sponsors who contradict our environmental standards and principles. This means you won’t find advertising posters for cars or motorbikes here, for example. Our partnerships are chosen so that they align with the values of cycling and our sustainable vision.
- Climate-neutral hosting infrastructure: Our website is hosted on energy-efficient servers powered exclusively by electricity from renewable sources. This not only helps reduce the digital carbon footprint but also supports long-term energy efficiency on the internet. In this way we do our part to minimise the ecological footprint of digital infrastructure.
Why we act:
The origins of long-distance cycling lie in a time when there were no asphalt roads and no motorised vehicles. Cycling was then a pioneering venture, largely in harmony with nature and the roads. At Grevet we want to take up and develop this original philosophy by actively integrating environmentally conscious measures into every phase of our event. Sustainability is not just a concept but a responsibility we carry in every decision — from mobility and the choice of materials to the design of our infrastructure.
We are convinced that cycling can continue to play an important role in environmentally friendly travel and sustainable journeys in the future. That is why we act now, to shape the cycling experience of tomorrow — environmentally conscious, responsible and in harmony with the principles of nature.
Grevet — a ride that respects and preserves nature.
